Technology companies like Facebook temporarily banned face mask advertisements. This is part of preventing the use of social media platforms to exploit people’s concerns about the coronavirus outbreak, The guardian cited.

The ban includes advertising on social networks as well as commercial listings on Facebook Marketplace. Facebook said it would start imposing the ban within the next few days.

“Our team is closely monitoring the Covid-19 situation and will make the necessary updates to our policy if we see people trying to exploit this public health emergency,” said Rob Leathern, director of product management for Facebook.

Facebook noted that it had previously announced a ban on advertisements that make claims about the health benefits of certain products or guaranteed that “a product will prevent someone from contracting” the disease.
